Introduction
Since 1919, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. has been one of the largest social service providers in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. In more than 50 offices and community centers, the agency rendered over 1.28 million services during the past year (July 1, 2006-June 30, 2007).
Clients come to Catholic Charities for emergency food and shelter, low-cost before-and-after-school childcare, immigration and refugee assistance, counseling services, computer and jobs skills training, and other supportive services. Poverty doesn't discriminate. How could Catholic Charities? All services are available regardless of a client's race, ethnicity, income, gender or religious belief.

History
The agency was established in 1919, as a response to the problems of poverty, crime, hunger and unemployment in Southern California. Its purpose was to meet the needs of families and initiate new service programs as required. When the agency officially became the Catholic Welfare Bureau in 1926, it served the extensive territory of Monterey, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange counties. In later years, Monterey and Orange counties developed their own Catholic Charities’ agencies. The Catholic Welfare Bureau name was changed to Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., in 1986.

Our New Logo
The new logo for Catholic Charities of Los Angeles (depicted below) is based on the logo of Catholic Charities USA, the national network
of charitable organizations associated with Catholic Church and founded in 1910. By using the "national" form of the logo, we emphasize
the fact that this agency is a member of one of the nation's largest social service networks. The logo depicts the outlines of a building
which represents our program sites and the cross, thus showing that the agency's mission springs from the Gospel and is grounded in Catholic social teaching.
We use the taglines of Catholic Charities USA: "Providing Help. Creating Hope." In this way we stress that our agency serves everyone in need, regardless of our clients' race, ethnic background, socio-economic status or religious affiliation. |
