Ways of supporting the work of Catholic Charities |

Deferred GivingGifts and bequests to Catholic Charities are deductible for federal income tax and federal estate tax purposes. The simplest way to do this is to make an outright bequest in a will or living trust of a specific amount of money, securities or property. It is easy to add a bequest to a current will through a codicil (amendment). The suggested wording in a bequest is: "I give, devise and bequest to Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. _____ (state percentage of estate or residue, sum of money, or describe property) for its general use and purposes." Real Estate and Appreciated Securities - All taxation on gifts of appreciated real estate can be exempted from federal income tax and capital gains tax. Capital gains tax can be exempted and federal tax can be reduced by donating stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other financial instruments which have increased in value since purchase date and have been held for no less than one year. Life Insurance - A donor may name Catholic Charities as the beneficiary of an old life insurance policy and capitalize on possible tax benefits. A tax advisor or attorney can describe more ways of assisting Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. in future years. |

| Matching Gifts Thousands of companies are matching dollar-for-dollar the money their employees give to non-profits. Some companies also contribute to charities where their employees volunteer. Even if a person is retired, works part-time, or is the spouse of an employee, he or she might be able to augment contributions through the employer. Human Resources Departments have a Matching Gift form, that may be filled out and the employee portion mailed to Catholic Charities. More of Catholic Charities' needy clients will benefit as a result of a matching gift. |

Memorial/Tribute GiftsA donor may contribute to Catholic Charities in memory of someone who has died or in honor of someone on an important occasion. An appropriate acknowledgment of the contribution will be sent to the donor and to the person the donor specifies to receive the notice. Catholic Charities has established a Fund for the Future to provide a long-term endowment through estate gift or life income programs. Building this Catholic Charities' endowment will expand Catholic Charities' financial base so that the necessary human service programs will continue to grow to meet the increasing needs of the communities within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Please contact Catholic Charities' Resource Development Department at 213/251-3495. |
