2000-2001 Annual Report

Monsignor Gregory A. Cox
Executive Director
Dear Friends of Catholic Charities:

Since its beginning in 1919, Catholic Charities has been at the forefront of providing programs and services that focus on identifying community needs, providing a structure for service delivery and offering comprehensive services. Its commitment to enhancing the social mission of the Church by providing a complete range of human services; assisting individuals to become more self sufficient; effecting social change; and promoting fair, equitable and humane treatment in social services, enabled Catholic Charities to reach 234,000 individuals and families last year.

The agencyís pledge to find more ways to serve the community is evident with the completion of Catholic Charitiesí Web Site www.CatholicCharitiesLA.org. The Web Site, a resource for the community, provides information about the agencyís programs and services; is an educational tool for the public to learn about emerging social issues facing society through news and commentary; and offers a place to respond to the needs of people in times of emergency.

As the social service arm of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, Catholic Charities serves Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. The agency addresses concerns of those in need and works to empower families and individuals by offering before and after school care for children of working poor and medium income families; providing people with case management and emergency services; sheltering homeless individuals including women, mothers and their children; enabling adults and youth to enhance their skills through job training, language and education classes; providing immigration and refugee services; and offering affordable mental health and psychological services.

By dedicating time and resources to assisting the most disadvantaged members of society, Catholic Charities continues to focus on discovering ways to serve those in the greatest need in order that they may become self-sufficient.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Monsignor Gregory A Cox
Executive Director
