Deferred Giving
Gifts and bequests to Catholic Charities are deductible for federal income and estate tax purposes. The simplest way to do this is to make an outright bequest in your Will or Living Trust of a specific amount of money, securities or property. It is easy to add a bequest to your current Will through a Codicil (Amendment). The suggested wording in a bequest is: I give, devise and bequest to Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. _____ (state the percentage of estate or residue, sum of money, or describe property) for its general use and purposes.
- Charitable Remainder Trusts and Charitable Gift Annuities can be established to provide you and another person income for life, and then to provide a deferred gift of the remaining assets to a charity such as Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. Depending on the type of Trust or Annuities established, you would be entitled to an income or estate tax deduction.
- Real Estate and Appreciated Securities - Exempt all taxation on gifts of appreciated real estate from federal income tax and capital gains tax. Avoid capital gains tax and reduce federal tax by donating stocks, bonds, mutual fund and other financial instruments which have increased in value since purchase date for and have been held for no less than one year.
- Life Insurance - Name Catholic Charities as the beneficiary of an old life insurance policy and capitalize on possible tax benefits

Employee Matching Gifts
Do you know if your employer would double your contribution to Catholic Charities? Thousands of companies are matching dollar-for-dollar the money their employees give to non-profits. Some companies also contribute to charities where their employees volunteer. Even if you are retired, work part-time or are the spouse of an employee, you might be able to augment your contributions through your employer. Contact your Human Resources Department, obtain a matching gift form, fill out the employee portion and mail the form to Catholic Charities.
