• OASIS staff, along with volunteers, provide supportive services for more than 900 frail and elderly seniors living in Ventura County. Catholic Charities’ outreach program for seniors offers health education and clinics for those unable to obtain regular health care.
• Nearly 300 children received immunizations before Easter at the Moorpark Catholic Charities Community Service Center. The agency worked with St. John’s Regional Medical Center and Ventura County Public Health to provide volunteer nursing staff and the medical record screening. Easter food baskets with wholesome foods and a $10 grocery card were distributed to families who participated.
• Catholic Charities’ Ventura Community Service Center provides information and advocacy for Homeless Court, a community adjudication forum held at the Salvation Army once a month. Homeless people sometimes receive infractions for violating laws by trespassing, loitering, or spending too many nights camping in the same place. They are required to perform community service hours, often at the Center.
• San Jose el Trabajor St. Joseph the Worker is the patron saint of two newly established Catholic Charities’ food pantries in downtown Saticoy and Cabrillo Village. Approximately 120 families receive food twice a month through support from local governments, Catholic and Lutheran churches, and the Boy Scouts.
• The Thousand Oaks Community Services Center has expanded services in partnership with Food Share. The agency upgraded the food pantry to provide USDA food staples to approximately 30 working families in need each month.
