Community Centers Never Give Up on Clients |
|||
| When a person turns to a Catholic Charities Community Center for assistance, the need may be immediate, but sometimes the need lingers on, or re-occurs in months or even years. At St. Margarets Center in Lennox, a young girl was in the care of her grandparents, and when her grandfather suddenly lost his job, they were forced to live out of their van. They turned to the center for the first time, and were given emergency food and rental assistance, and their case manager helped the grandfather find a new job, related Mary Agnes Erlandson, Program Coordinator of St. Margarets Center. They were managing to get by, until the grandfather was unemployed again. Living paycheck to paycheck, this burden proved too much. Once more the center provided them with motel vouchers and food, assisted the grandfather in finding full time work, and helped them secure a stable home. A few years later, their family was forced to cope with another life-changing issue when the granddaughter was assaulted. She needed psychological counseling, so Catholic Charities secured a referral for a specialist. This family faced their share of hard times. But, no matter what happens to this family or others like them, Catholic Charities provides whatever it takes, for as long as it takes, to get people through some of lifes toughest situations, said Jim Stratton, Director of the Western Area of Our Lady of the Angels Region.
