Held December 2, 2011 at The California Club
This elegant fundraiser honored the 2011 Investees of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Paul and Cathy Tosetti. Proceeds benefit Catholic Charities' community center poverty programs that serve poor and homeless children and families.

Unemployment and Income
Figures for December 2011 show that unemployment in Los Angeles County has dipped slightly, down to 11.8%. In the last three years, the County's unemployment rate has fluctuated between 12% - 13%.
Nearly 80% of Catholic Charities' clients earn less than $20,000 annually and many of these clients are trying to support families with this income.
Hunger
Poverty and unemployment are the root causes of hunger.
Food assistance from food banks and agencies like Catholic Charities has increased by 27% over the last three years in Los Angeles County.
There is an estimated gap between supply and demand of 1.3 Million pounds of food per month county-wide.
Children
A recent study found that approximately 21% of children in the U.S. are living below the poverty line. The total number of children in poverty has risen by two million in the last two years.
One out of every four children are on food stamps in the U.S.
It is estimated that half a million children are currently homeless in this country.
Homelessness
California has the highest percentage of homeless individuals (21%, or 1 in 5 people) nationwide and is among the top five states with the highest rate (62.7%) of unsheltered homeless persons. Since 2010, California has led the country in the largest increase (2.3%) in homelessness.
Between 2009 - 2011, homelessness increased in the San Fernando Valley (+26.0%), San Gabriel Valley (+19.9%), City of Los Angeles (+1.7%), and South Bay (+50.9%).
Although the number of U.S. Veterans who are homeless has decreased by 11% - 12% across the country, the number of homeless individuals who are Vets locally has increased by 3% since 2009; Veterans now account for 18% of the homeless population in Los Angeles County. Of these local Veterans, 31% are considered "chronically homeless" now, up from 19% in 2009. |

Brothers "Pedro" and "Rafael" (not pictured above) are now in college at UC San Diego and Cal State Northridge. They are studying hard, planning careers and living full lives. But their lives could have gone in an altogether different direction. The brothers grew up in a neighborhood rife with gang violence, illiteracy, poverty and lack of hope.
