Immigration and Refugee Advocacy Efforts
Honored with National Award

Mr. Mark Franken, Executive Director, Migration and Refugee Services, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, congratulates Loc Nguyen, Director of Catholic Charities’ Immigration and Refugee Services Department, during the awards presentation at the USCCB National Migration Conference 2003 in Washington, D.C.
Since 1953, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles’ Immigration and Refugee Services has provided support and advocacy to individuals and families. It gives assistance to legalize a client’s residency status, to assist and enable a client through the naturalization process that results in U.S. citizenship, and to achieve adjustment of status for refugees.
Because of their unyielding advocacy on behalf of immigrants and refugees, the Immigration and Refugee Services Department was awarded an Excellency in Advocacy Award by the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB)/ Migration and Refugee Services. This award represents one of the highest honors given to an agency for work on behalf of immigrant and refugee communities. The Department’s efforts have garnered many Federal, State, County, City and local organization awards.
Catholic Charities’ Immigration and Refugee Services Department provides assistance in multiple languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Chinese-Mandarin, Cambodian, Armenian and Farsi. Most of the staff who work directly with clients are former immigrants or refugee themselves. These staff members are familiar with the process of legalization and naturalization and understand the difficulties with resettling in the United States.

Catholic Charities’ Immigration and Refugee Services Department is located at 1530 James M. Wood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90015. For more information, please call us at: (213) 251-3489.
