Through the generous support of individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations, Catholic Charities was able to provide over 1.2 million services during the past fiscal year (July 1, 2005-June 30, 2006).

For every dollar donated, 90 cents went directly to program services and only 10 cents to expenses. Our low administrative and fundraising costs (half of the national average of 20 cents per dollar) allow us to devote most of our revenues to programs that benefit the most needy and vulnerable members of our society. Without the help of our dedicated donors, the work of Catholic Charities would not be able to continue. Thank you for your support!

Please note:
Neither Catholic Charities USA nor any of its affiliates throughout the United States, including Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., are in any way associated or affiliated with the organization whose Website address is www.catholic-charities.net.

Employee Matching Gifts
Do you know if your employer would double your contribution to Catholic Charities? Thousands of companies are matching dollar-for-dollar the money their employees give to non-profits. Some companies also contribute to charities where their employees volunteer. Even if you are retired, work part-time or are the spouse of an employee, you might be able to augment your contributions through your employer. Contact your Human Resources Department, obtain a matching gift form, fill out the employee portion and mail the form to Catholic Charities. More of our needy clients will benefit as a result of a matching gift.

Memorial/Tribute Gifts
Contribute to Catholic Charities in memory of someone who has died or in honor of someone on an important occasion. We will send appropriate acknowledgments of the contribution to you and to the person you specify to receive the notice.

Joyful Givers' Circle
For those of you who would like to make a monthly pledge to Catholic Charities, we offer our Joyful Givers Circle. You will be forwarded three pre-addressed envelopes four times a year, which you may use to make monthly contributions to Catholic Charities. By making monthly donations you can lessen the burden of a larger, annual gift. And, more importantly, you can show your long-term support of Catholic Charities and the services we provide to the community. If you are interested, please call 213-251-3494 or 213-251-3498 for more information about the Joyful Givers Circle.

Gifts of Stocks and Securities
Individuals who contribute specific assets such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other financial instruments, which may have increased in value since purchase date and have been held for no less than one year, can avoid any capital gains tax by donating these appreciated securities. Federal tax liability may be reduced. Transferring these assets to a life income trust can increase one's income to help with today's financial needs.

When donors designate Catholic Charities to receive a stock donation, in order to complete the transaction, it is Catholic Charities’ preferred handling to take possession of the shares directly through our broker. We prefer this to having the stock certificate issued in Catholic Charities’ name. To complete this, we request that the donor use Catholic Charities’ DTC (Depository Trust Company) number:

National Financial
DTC#: 226
For credit to: KRX 161055
For the benefit of:
Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc.

We further request that the donor provide us, in writing, a confirmation of the date, market value on that date, number of shares, name of corporation, name of donor and donor’s address for proper acknowledgment of the gift, along with any designation or instructions the donor may have given. You can use our FAX number, (213) 380-4603, to the attention of James E. Bathker, CFO, and Alexandria (Sandi) Arnold, Director of Resource Development, for this notification, or your broker can send the information to Catholic Charities, Attn: Controller, P.O. Box 15095, Los Angeles, CA 90015-0095. As you realize, we also need this information to properly trace the activity and notify our broker of the arrival of the shares into our account.

Wills and Bequests
Gifts and bequests to Catholic Charities are deductible for federal income tax and federal estate tax purposes. The simplest way to do this is to make an outright bequest in your will or living trust of a specific amount of money, securities or property. It is easy to add a bequest to your current will through a codicil (amendment). The suggested wording in a bequest is: "I give, devise and bequest to Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. (state the percentage of estate or residue, sum of money, or describe property) for its general use and purposes." Charitable remainder trusts can be established to provide you and another person income for life, and then to provide a deferred gift of the remaining assets to a charity such as Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc. Depending on the type of trust established, you would be entitled to an income tax or estate tax deduction.

Charitable Gift Annuities
Create a personal endowment with a charitable gift annuity in support of Catholic Charities' programs and receive a guaranteed life income with high payout rates based on age at the inception of the gift annuity. Use stocks, bonds and cash in a way that will help Catholic Charities while, at the same time, help you. Part of your income may be tax exempt, you may receive a charitable tax deduction, and there may be no Social Security implications. Consult your tax advisor or attorney for specific benefits.

Life Insurance
Name Catholic Charities as the beneficiary of an old life insurance policy and capitalize on possible tax benefits.

Fund for the Future Endowment
Catholic Charities has established a Fund for the Future to provide a long-term endowment through estate gift or life income programs. Building this Catholic Charities’ endowment fund will expand our financial base so that the necessary human service programs will continue to grow to meet the increasing needs of our communities. If you have questions, or want to find out how you can become a member of the Fund for the Future Society, please contact Catholic Charities’ Resource Development Department at 213-251-3495.
