CHARITY NAVIGATOR AWARDS FOUR STARS
TO CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF LOS ANGELES Among over 3,100 charities rated by Charity Navigator in 2004, Catholic Charities of Los Angeles, Inc., has earned four stars, the highest number possible, for the third consecutive year. Catholic Charities of Los Angeles outperforms most human service charities of its kind and allocates the highest portion of its budget to supporting its mission, offering a full range of programs and services to the poorest residents of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. Out of every $100 in the budget, the agency spends $90.10 on programs and services, $8.80 on administrative expenses, and $1.10 on fundraising. An average American charity spends $20 to raise and manage $100; Catholic Charities spends less than $10! In 2004, the Charity Navigator rankings measured the status of more charities than previously and the number of evaluated agencies rose from 2,480 in 2003 to over 3,100 charities this year. The rankings are based on the following criteria: (a) the efficiency of day-to-day operations; (b) the amount of money spent to secure donations; (c) the revenues dedicated to program service; and (d) the cost of administration and management. Charity Navigator, an online resource, was founded in 2001 to provide unbiased ratings of charities in the United States.
