At the Office of Refugee Resettlement's annual consultation in June, Loc Nguyen, Director of Catholic Charities of Los Angeles' Immigration and Refugee programs, received the Excellence in Leadership Award.

Mr. Nguyen was recognized for 35 years of service to newly arrived refugees.  Here in Los Angeles, he oversees one of the largest and busiest immigration and refugee resettlement offices in the nation.  Mr. Nguyen was honored along with two other leaders in refugee resettlement.

"These individuals have helped countless numbers of refugees, including young children and adults, overcome their hardships and transition smoothly into our country," said Carmen R. Nazario, HHS assistant secretary for children and families.  "I congratulate them on their achievements and for giving the gift of a new start."
