Rental Assistance Program Helps Elderly Man
At age 76, “Charles” had lived on his own in the same home for eight years. He had no trouble paying his rent or keeping up on the housework. Then, one day, he received a 30-day notice to vacate the property, because his landlord had to sell the building.
Elderly Man Helped by Rental Assistance Program
Since Charles could not garner first month’s rent along with security deposit for a new place, he was facing homelessness. Charles first contacted the Pomona Outreach Team for help. They found him an inexpensive apartment but could not help him with the funds he so desperately needed. The Outreach Team referred him to Catholic Charities where, thanks to the OASIS (Older Adult Services and Intervention System) rental assistance program, Charles was able to get the down payment he needed to move in right away. After being stressed by the prospect of life on the streets, the rapid assistance was a great relief.
